Amnet Internet Service
Down For Two Straight Mornings
If you are an Amnet customer in the west end
of San José, namely the Rohrmoser/Pavas
district, you will have experienced for two
mornings straight no internet service.
Inside Costa Rica is located in the service
or rather, no service area, and have to
struggle preparing our daily edition using
ICE's Kolbi 3G cellular internet service, a
service that ICE has boasted speeds of up to
1.5MBPS, but in reality offers no better
connection than the old style dial modem
that worked at 9KBPS.
Amnet's answer is to keep you on the line
for an endless period while an automated
operator explains that all service personnel
are busy. "you may also wait on the line..."
is the repeated message.
And then, only to be told "we have a problem
in the area and internet service will be
restored promptly". On Thursday it wasn't
before noon before full internet services
were restored. Thursday evening, certain
websites were taking an unusual long time to
display, as the service was intermittently
interrupted.
The official Amnet answer to that is it is
beyond its control. However, in the past
Amnet and Racsa would take turns blaming
each other for service interruptions. Amnet
no longer has that excuse, as it now
provides its own internet service
connection, competing with Racsa.
So "what does beyond out control" really
mean??
