"Gringo" On His Way To
The Airport To Pick Up His Father
Jake Travis, the 34 year old American
("Gringo" as he is being called in the local
press) who died Thursday night in the fatal
traffic accidents on the San José - Caldera,
was on his way to the San José airport to
pick up his father who arrived from the US
minutes after the news broke of his son's
tragic death.
Jake Travis lives in Portálon de Matapalo in
Quepos with his two childen whom he had
custody.
Friends say Jake was on his way to pick up
his father who arriving that night, leaving
Quepos that afternoon, along with a friend
and his two children. The accident took
place shortly after 8pm.
The Tránsito (traffic) police are
investigating that high speeding was
involved in the accident that saw Jake lose
his life when he hit a concrete median. No
other vehicles were involved in the
accident. Witnesses say they say the vehicle
speeding by and flipped over after hitting
the abutment, landing on top of Jake who had
been expelled from the vehicle's impact.
Jake died on the scene as rescue workers
could do nothing for him. Jake's two
children were taken to hospital, where they
are recovering.
