Laura's Father Says
His Daughter Is A Luxury For Costa Rica
Rafael Ángel Chinchilla, the father of
president-elect, Laura Chinchilla, says that
"Laura is a luxury for Costa Rica" and not
because she is daughter, but cites his
political experience over the last several
decades.
Rafael Ángel, at 77 years of age has served
as Comptroller General under the
administrations of José Figueres Ferrer,
Daniel Oduber, Rodrigo Carazo, Luis Alberto
Monge and the first administration of Óscar
Arias.
Laura's father says that Costa Rica is at
the face of a promising future and never
imagined that only daughter of his four
children, would today become the country's
next president.
The former Comptroller admits that he saw
his only daughter reaching high places and
important roles in society and it was he who
insisted she take the position of Ministerio
de Seguridad Pública in 1994.
In 2002, Laura was asked by Rolando Araya,
in his 2002 failed campaign, to join his
legislative team and for 2006, Oscar Arias,
offered her the vice-presidency.
Rafael Ángel says he never had to scold
Laura, who at 50 years of age continues to
be a calm person.
In closing, don Rafael Ángel has 10
suggestions for his daughter and the next
president, that include she be careful of
who she allows to surround her, being
selective whom she chooses for high posts,
govern with outmost transparency and careful
who gets close offering fake friendship or
support.
Laura's father said that his daughter won
the election for her good reputation, a
clean campaign and is honest.
