Domestic Violence Increases in El Salvador

SAN SALVADOR - According to the Institute for the Advancement of women, domestic violence against women in El Salvador is a social phenomenon which increases every year.

According to a report from that state organization the allegations of abuse reported by women increased in 2009. 589 women died because of that in 2009 and 410 died in 2008.

6.546 allegations of domestic violence were reported in 2009 in the country, 10 percent more than in 2008.

The report detailed that every hour and a half a woman is physically or psychological abused by her husband or her couple.

Sandra Guevara, activist of Las Melidas Feminist Organization, said that women situation is very difficult in that nation because every year domestic abuse against them increases.

Other ways of violence strikes this country where about 13 crimes are reported every day.
