TV Programs Critical
Of Nicaragua's Ortega Return To Air
MANAGUA - Guaranteed the right to editorial
independence, journalist Carlos Fernando
Chamorro announced that his programs
"Tonight" (Esta Noche) and "This Week" (
Esta Semana) will return to TV on privately
owned Canal 12, La Prensa reports.
Chamorro signed both programs off the air of
Channel 8 last month when it was confirmed
that the station had been acquired by a
group linked to President Daniel Ortega.
The journalist said that his agreement with
Channel 12 guarantees the editorial
independence of the programs, and he thanked
the audience for its support. “Now we are
more committed to you," Chamorro said, as
quoted by El Nuevo Diario.
According to the EFE news service, Chamorro
also pledged to maintain high journalistic
standards: "Journalism committed to keeping
watch over power, providing a useful service
to the community, and contributing to the
public debate supporting democracy." |
