Bloggers Capture National Journalism Awards in Costa Rica
By Joseph Vavrus

In a sign that digital and alternative media are making important inroads, the Ministerio de Cultura y Juventud (Ministry of Culture and Youth) granted journalist Cristian Cambronero the Pío Víquez National Journalism Award, Jenny Cascante writes for Global Voices Online.

Cambronero publishes Fusil de Chispas, a four-year-old blog on national politics, web culture, and entertainment.

Judges called his blog “a great example of journalism 2.0 and the way it can draw opinions and reactions from the web.”

The prize is one of 29 annual national culture awards and one of two that goes to journalists. Evelyn Ugalde won the Joaquín García Monge National Award in cultural journalism for her online literary magazine Clube de Libros, Red Cultura adds.
