2010 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS
PAC Says It Is Out of
Money
The Partido Acción Ciudadana (PAC) declared
itself out of money to buy advertising spots
for the last two weeks of the 2010
presidential elections campaign.
The party said it blames the Banco de Costa
Rica (BCR) for holding it "hostage", because
the bank has not disbursing part of the
class A bond money the party uses to finance
its electoral roll.
Francisco Molina, head of the PAC campaign
said the situation, calling the bank's
action as "an attack on democracy".
"We are being muzzled at a key point in the
election campaign, this is very serious",
said Molina.
The lack of funds means that there won't be
any PAC ads on television channels 4, 6, 7,
11, while ads will continue to run on TV
Extra's channel 42, as that payment is from
class B bonds.
Ottón Solís, PAC presidential candidate has
been running in third place during this
campaign, behind second place Otto Guevara
of the Movemiento Libertatio and leader
Laura Chinchilla of the Liberación.
This is the third Solís presidential bid, in
2006 coming within less than a 1.000 votes
from taking that election from Oscar Arias. |
