Chavez Nixes Again US
Haiti Occupation
CARACAS - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez
reiterated on Wednesday his denunciation,
before the international community, of
thousands of soldiers that the United Stated
have deployed in Haiti.
I want to repeat it: the US government is
taking advantage of a humanitarian tragedy
to take control in Haiti by means of the
military forces, he warned in this capital
during the opening ceremony of a cable
railway system.
Chavez said that is the only possible
interpretation of Washington's role after
the 7.3-degree earthquake that devastated
Port au Prince eight days ago, sending
thousands of Pentagon troops.
They are occupying Haiti militarily. They
even occupied the Government Palace. You can
see the marines with machine guns and
rifles, shooting the looters, he said.
The Venezuelan president said the US troops
arrived in Haiti with no restriction and
with green light to use their weapons.
They entered that country with permission to
kill, whomever they want to and whenever it
is, he said.
In Chavez' opinion, instead of soldiers, the
United States should send more humanitarian
aid to the Caribbean country.
We wish they would send doctors and
medicines, he said.
In his speech, the statesman ratified
Venezuela's willingness to support Haiti.
We are willing to do everything we can for
that country, respecting its sovereignty and
independence, he asserted. |
