Marti's Birth & Arrival to Caracas
CARACAS - The Casa de Nuestra America in
Venezuela has started on Wednesday a
campaign to honor the 129th anniversary of
the visit of Jose Marti to this country, and
157 years of his birthday.
Marti arrived in Caracas on January 21,
1881, the same month he celebrated his 28th
birthday, and later founded "La Revista
Venezolana." According to several experts,
that publication marked the beginning of the
modernist literary movement.
On the occasion of the Marti Celebration
program, the country will hold several
cultural events on January 20-28.
Today's program include a tribute at the
monument to Marti in the "Camino de los
Españoles," (Spaniards' Road) a 7.4 mile
stretch from Quenepe, state of Vargas, to
Puerta Caracas, in the Capital District.
National Youth Institute president Maria
Rosa Jimenez, "Casa de Nuestra America"
executive director Zaida Castro, and Simon
Bolivar Marti Club president Lourdes Sosa
will be the speakers in the event.
