Business Meeting Discusses Haiti
PANAMA - The complex situation in Haiti,
seriously affected by a quake last week, was
focused in the agenda of the Latin American
Business Council, in session in Panama City
on Friday.
During his speech, President of Colombia
Alvaro Uribe suggested the designation of
responsibilities by countries to leave
behind the effects of disaster as soon as
possible. He considered that by linking any
given nation to the reconstruction of
schools, houses and infrastructure, "we
might advance more rapidly" in the process.
Uribe and Panamanian President Ricardo
Martinelli highlighted efforts carried out
by the international community in helping
Haiti with food, medicines and supplies.
Meanwhile, CEAL issues a note expressing
consternation for the human and material
losses caused by the quake and said that
members of the Council are "set to examine
with absolute priority business
opportunities in Haiti," with particular
emphasis in the textile, footwear,
handicraft, civil construction and food
industries, among others.
CEAL ratifies its "support to the relief and
health care efforts to assist the quake
victims."
