OVSICORI Installs Turrialba Volcano Camera

The Observatorio Vulcanológico y Sismológico de Costa Rica (OVSICORI) has installed a camera pointed at the Turrialba volcano so that volcanologists can keep an eye on the colossus on a 24 hours basis.

The camera is installed some 700 metres from the active crater. The zoom feature allow experts to keep a close look on activity of the volcano.

This is a pilot project by the OVSICORI, that if successful will be extended to all the active volcanoes in the country.

The live images from the camera are also available on the OVSICORI website, http://www.ovsicori.una.ac.cr/vulcanologia/videoturri.html

Actual live image taken at 6:52am
