Solís Says He Was Offered us$50 Million Dollars By Panamian To Finance His Campaign

Ottón Solís, the presidential candidate for the Partido Acción Cuidadan (PAC) sent a letter on Monday to the Tribunal Supremo de Elecciones (TSE), explaining that he received a strange phone call from a number originating in Panama, offering him financial help for his struggling campaign.

Solís said in his letter of explanation to the TSE, that the Panamanian told him that he was aware of his financial wows and that he was ready to offer the PAC us$50 million dollars to continue their publicity campaign.

The PAC candidate said in his letter that he told the caller that he would only receive financing from Costa Rican nationals and based on the rules set out by the elections tribunal.

Solís made it public last week that the PAC party is without money to continue with the publicity campaign given that the Banco de Costa Rica (BCR) would not be disbursing funds to the party as had been agreed. The PAC candidate charged that the bank was in collusion so as not to get him elected on February 7.

In the last two weeks of the presidential campaign, the political parties and their candidates will be focusing the media to get their message to the voters rather than knocking on doors.

The Partido Liberación Nacional (PLN) and the Moviemient Libertario (ML) parties are holding big "festival" type events and rallies to keep the momentum going.

The PLN is expected to take over Paseo Colón in San José on Sunday, with music, dance and lots of activities geared to get public support, while the ML will be holding a series of smaller events in towns around the country.
