Venezuela Begins Election Registrations

CARACAS - The National Electoral Council of Venezuela (CNE) begins on Monday until April 30 the electors'' registrations and updating or the forthcoming elections this year. According to the council, there will be 1,100 registration centers at communities and politic organization disposal around the country in the first stage.

The second stage will begin next Mars 1st with another 1,120 fixed and mobile electoral registration stations, the communiqué stated.

So far, next September 26 legislative elections is the most important electoral goal to 2010, in which electors could vote 165 members of National Assembly, 110 of them previously designated, 52 by list and three indigenous representatives.

However, The Constitution allows calling a referendum to repeal the term of office, in which public office including presidency can be put to the popular opinion when there have been two years of administration.

Although the Head of State Hugo Chavez has publicly challenge opposition to use this referendum, all the indications are that his political opponents opted for concentrate on parliamentary elections.

According to CNE, there are 17,601,440 registered voters in Venezuela. And the National Institute of Statistic forecasts about 18,845,119 electors around the country.
