Ecuador FM Calls
UNASUR Peers to Meet
QUITO - New Ecuadorian Foreign Minister
Ricardo Patiño will assume his post
Wednesday, and call upon his peers from the
South American Union of Nations (UNASUR) to
meet and dialogue with the US.
The common agenda will be revised in views
of the projected meeting with US Secretary
of State Hilary Clinton, who agreed to
attend the encounter proposed by President
Rafael Correa, temporary head of the
regional bloc.
Patino told El Ciudadano online that the US
military bases in Colombia are among the
main issues for discussion.
He said that Colombian Foreign Minister
Jaime Bermudez congratulated him via
telephone for his appointment.
Patiño thanked him and expressed his desire
to achieve progress in talks for the
resumption of bilateral relations.
