Costa Rica
Frequent telluric movements in Costa Rica
since last Saturday were the cause of the
clash of Cocos and Nazca plates and the
micro-plate Panama in the area around Punta
Burica, experts reported on Tuesday.
Wilfredo Rojas Red Sismológica Nacional (RSN)
pointed out that up to now Costa Rica has
felt 24 earth tremors of more than 3.8
degrees on the Richter scale
According to the specialist, the phenomena
is normal because they happen in the more
active seismic zone in Central America.
The RSN reported that since Saturday the
equipments recorded about 60 quakes, 24 of
them with more than 3.8 degrees.
Punta Banco, Laurel, La Vaca and Comte in
Costa Rica and Limonales and Puerto
Armuelles in Panama were the most affected
places.
Punta Burica, where the clash started, is
the peninsula that separates Panama and
Costa Rica in the Pacific Ocean. |
