Canada Needs Win Over
Costa Rica To Earn U20 Women's World Cup

Canada hopes to clinch its fifth-consecutive
berth in the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup
when it battles Costa Rica on Saturday.
The Canadians play the Costa Ricans in the
third-place game of the CONCACAF under-20
championships, the first time in history
Canada has failed to make the tournament
final.
"Our goal has always been to qualify for the
FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup Germany 2010,"
said coach Carolina Morace. "We may have
taken the harder route, but the goal remains
the same."
The U.S. and Mexico meet in the final,
automatically clinching two of the three
World Cup spots up for grabs.
Canada lost 1-0 in extra time to Mexico in
Thursday's semifinals, while Costa Rica was
beaten 2-1 by the U.S.
Canada defeated Costa Rica 1-0 in the
tournament opener Jan. 20.
Canada has an all-time record of 17 wins and
two losses at the CONCACAF women's under-20
championship.
