Colombian Cops Seize
Cocaine-Stuffed Cookies
BOGOTA - The biscuits looked perfect but
Colombian sniffer dogs smelled something
that was just not right in the
Barcelona-bound shipment: cocaine.
Counter-narcotics police said in a statement
on Saturday that a total of 5kg of the drug
had been found concealed in 10 packets of
biscuits.
Not your average biscuit, "the cream was
taken out of the cookies and replaced with
compressed bleached cocaine to avoid
suspicion from counter-narcotics units",
they said.
Colombia is the world's biggest producer of
cocaine, making an estimated 430 tons in
2009 - half of global production - according
to the United Nations Office on Drugs and
Crime.
Spain is one of the top ports of entry for
drugs to be smuggled into Europe. Drugs that
enter the country include hashish from North
Africa and cocaine from Latin America. -
