Mid-Year School
Break
Sometime after
noon tomorrow
some 1 million
students will
leave school for
their mid-year
vacation period
and return to
the classrooms
on Monday, July
19.
That also means
that many of
ther parents
take their
vacation period
at the same
time, heading to
the beaches and
resorts.
For that the
Policía de
Tránsito, along
with the Cruz
Roja and the
Fuerza Pública
(police) are on
full alert. The
Policía de
Tránsito will
have at least
700 officers
keeping an eye
on the expected
400.000 vehicles
that will be
leaving San José
this weekend.
The Cruz Roja
(Red Cross) will
have some 375
attendants at
164 posts on
highways and
beaches. The
Fuerza Pública
is assigning
2.000 officers
to keep an eye
on vacationers.
César Quirós,
director de la
Policía de
Tránsito,
suggests that
vehicle owners
check their
tires, brakes
and the general
condition of
their vehicle
before heading
out. For his
part, Erick
Lacayo, director
of the Fuerza
Pública, said
although his
officers will be
caring for
vacationers but
won't let down
their guard in
San José.
Hospitals like
the Hospital de
Niño (Childrens
hospital) will
also be on full
alert as the
mid-year
vacations mean a
high rate of
incidences.
Orlando Urroz,
subdirector of
the Niños, calls
on parents not
to neglect their
children,
especially the
young.
"Burns and
accidents around
the home are
very high during
this period",
said Urroz. |
