Handgun And Cellular Phones Found In Hands Of Prisoners In La Reforma

Just because a person is behind bars at the La Reforma prison in Alajuela it doesn't exclude him from possession of a handgun or a cellular telephone.

During a sweep of the prison this past Monday (June 28) authorities found a number of contraband items smuggled into the prison, including a handgun and three cellular telephones.

The job now of prison authorities is to determine how these items got into the prison and in the hands of the prisoners.

Cellular phones are an important tool for prisoners involved in committing extortion outside the prison, as the prison landlines are coded to notify that the call is coming from the prison.
