Brazilian Court Authorizes
Bid For Rio-Sao Paulo Bullet Train
BRASILIA - Brazil's Court of Accounts (TCU),
the main supervisory body in South American
country, approved Wednesday the study report
on the bid process for the high-speed
railway between the cities of Rio de
Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Campinas, in the
interior of Sao Paulo.
The National Land Transport Agency (ANTT),
which conducted the study, is thereby
empowered to publish the bidding process,
which has an estimated value of 33.1 billion
reais (18.39 billion dollars).
The project includes the construction,
operation, maintenance and upkeep of the
railway between the cities, and concession
will last for a period of 40 years.
According to ANTT estimates, the bullet
train railway will have about 91 km of
tunnels and 103 km of bridges and viaducts.
The decision by TCU presented several
reservations related to the study and
determined that corrective actions are
included in the detailed bidding process and
in the concession contract.
The ceiling for funding by the Brazilian
government through state banks is 60 percent
of the value of the enterprise. |
