Brazil To Invest us$735 Billion In Infrastructure In Coming Years

RIO DE JANEIRO - Development Minister Miguel Jorge said Tuesday that Brazil will invest 735 billion U.S. dollars in the infrastructure, industry and construction sectors in the next three years.

At a Brazil-Italy business seminar in Sao Paulo, Jorge said that it is now the best time to invest in the country, whose economy is expected to grow 6 to 6.5 percent in 2010.

"We have macroeconomic, political and institutional stability," said the minister. "Besides, we have quickly overcome the effects of the international financial crisis and have returned to a path of sustainable growth."

According to Jorge, among the 735 billion dollars, 477 billion will be invested in infrastructure, 258 billion in the construction sector, and another 100 billion dollars in projects for the 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games.

Jorge also said Italy can be a strong ally to Brazil in the negotiations on a free trade agreement between the Common Market of the South and the European Union, which is being discussed in Buenos Aires.

Brazil hopes that the negotiations will advance in the next few months, he added.
