Bolivian Autonomy Law under
Debate
LA PAZ - The Bolivian congressional joint
commission on territorial organization of
the state and autonomy is continuing
discussions on Friday on a framework law for
autonomy and decentralization. The talks
began yesterday at the Andres Ibanez Hall of
the Legislative Assembly, attended by
deputies and senators.
Opposition leader German Antelo announced
that an alternative project would be
introduced and delivered to members of the
commission for analysis and assessment.
However, the president of that Commission,
Senator Gabriela Montano of the ruling
Movement towards Socialism (MAS), clarified
it is not a new project but a modification
of the one presented by the MAS.
The draft Autonomy Framework Law is the
fifth organic law that is supposed to be
approved before July 23 as stipulated by the
country's new Constitution.
Contrary to the four laws previously signed,
the autonomy project will be jointly debated
by the two Chambers, and must be passed by
two-thirds of the entire Plurinational
Legislative Assembly. |
