Contaminated
Water Sends
Hundreds
To Emergency
Room In San
Carlos
An outbreak of
diarrhea has
affected some
265 people in
three
communities in Cuidad Quesada,
San Carlos. Men,
women and
children of all
ages with
diarrhea,
vomiting and
stomach pains
filled the
emergency room
of the local
hospital on
Thursday.
Accoriding to
Ana Morice,
viceministra de
Salud, said that
none of the
patients
required no one
required
hospitalization
and all are in
stable
condition.
Morice explained
that Health
officials are
looking at
contamination of
drinking water
as the cause of
the outbreak in
San Blas, San
Roque and San
Martín in the
communities of
San Carlos.
Alfredo Córdoba,
the mayor of
Cuidad Quesada,
did not rule out
that the local
drinking water
is the cause of
the outbreak,
although recent
bacteriological
studies
indicated that
it is safe to
drink.
"It is best not
to drink the
water without
boiling it
first", was the
recommendation
of the mayor,
who also
suggested
drinking bottled
water while
municipal and
health officials
figure out what
occurred.
Córdoba did not
rule out that
the
contamination
was deliberate
by "third"
parties and in
if that is the
case all the
water from the
holding tanks
has to be
emptied out and
refilled with
non-contaminated
water. |
