"Twitter To Be
Formed and
Informed" Says
Twitter
Co-Founder In
Costa Rica
Co-creator of
Twitter, Dom
Sagolla, told in
San José, Costa
Rica, at the
Cumbre del
Futuro en Costa
Rica (Summit of
the Future),
that the
microblogging
system is today
"a way to be
formed and
informed".
He also assured
that for many
the social
network has
served as a new
media of
communication,
just in case of
natural
disasters like
the recent
earthquakes in
Chile and Haiti.
Dom Sagolla
pointed out that
many presidents
and governments
now reach the
public using
Twitter and for
example,
"Venezuela has
increased its
number of active
users since
president Hugo
Chávez joined
the platform" (chavezcandanga)
Chavez opened
his Twitter
account last
April and in
June he broke
all the records
with half
million of
followers. They
are many the
presidents,
Sagolla
indicated, that
use Twitter, but
the case of
Venezuela is
atypical."
In fact, the
American leader
Barack Obama
uses this
platform since
2008, but
Sagolla said
that he is not
sure that the
President
himself uses his
account. Many
have said the
same about
Chavez, and he
told the
audiences he was
supported by a
working team
that collect and
Costa Rican
president, Laura
Chinchilla, is
another Twitter
good example
from
Presidential
Offices. During
her political
campaign and now
also in the
Government he
uses Twitter to
inform the
citizens about
her activities
and opinions on
topics of
interest.
During Haiti
earthquake last
January 12,
Twitter was the
road "to collect
two million
dollars in only
48 hours" to
help to the
affected
peoples, Sagolla
added, according
to a EFE report
from San José. |
