China Provides Millions for
Investment in Ecuador
QUITO - The Ecuadorian Secretariat of
Planning and Development (Senplades) signed
a $1 billion agreement with China CAMC
Engineering for investment in strategic
projects.
The agreement covers projects of mutual
interest such as food storage, multipurpose
water projects, and sustainable energy
generation for the Galapagos Islands,
Ecuadorian officials announced at a press
conference.
Other possible projects include
environmental cleanup, drinking water,
sewage, and others, with which the
government aims to more public investment
and a more effective use of resources.
Under the agreement, China CAMC Engineering
has committed to training Ecuadorian staff
for implementing these projects, and to
generating appropriate technology transfer.
These projects, which could increase in the
future, were prioritized and selected under
strict criteria of social responsibility,
high environmental standards, and
state-of-the-art technology, explained Mateo
Villalbe, Senplades undersecretary. |
