Getting caught
robbing a bank
in Costa Rica
nothing more
than a nuisance
of being hauled
off to jail,
face a bail
hearing and
going home and
the, in most
cases,
disappearing
into the
woodwork. At
least that is
the experience
of three bank
robbers caught
after robbing
the Banco
Crédito Agrícola
de Cartago, en
Goicoechea (San
José).
At first the
three men were
ordered to four
months
preventive
detention by the
Juzgado Penal de
Turno
Extraordinario
following the
Tuesday
afternoon
robbery.
But defence
lawyers appealed
the detention
and some six
hours later were
released due to
a technical
issue with
notices to the
hearing.
On Tuesday, the
three men were
apprehended
quickly by
efforts of the
Fuerza Pública
(police) and
recover the ¢6.5
million colones
and us$6.300
dollars in cash
stolen.
Police found
most of the
money in a bag
being carried by
one of the
suspects who was
hurt during a
shootout with
police.
