Resistance Front Opposes
Honduras' Admission to OAS
TEGUCIGALPA - The National Front of Popular
Resistance (NFPR) said it is opposed to
Honduras' readmission to the OAS or the
System of Central American Integration (SICA),
saying it must return to democracy first.
"We categorically oppose the reintegration
into any international or multilateral
organization of the Porfirio Lobo
government," the front stated in a report.
The front, a coalition of a broad range of
popular, political and intellectual
organizations, reported that a year after
the coup that overthrew the government of
Manuel Zelaya, human rights violations
continue.
Coup structures continue intact, many
instigators of the coup occupy key
positions, and the perpetrators of crimes,
torture and other outrages enjoy total
impunity, warned the NFRP.
On the other hand, the minimal conditions do
not exist for the return of Zelaya or the
other 200 people forced to live in exile,
and fleeing constant threats, persecution
and intimidation.
The resistance movement was formed in answer
to the June 28, 2009 coup and blames the
United States for being jointly responsible
for the rupture with democracy and a top
supporter of Honduras' return to the OAS.
The front warned that with the installation
of two new military bases in Honduras,
Washington intends to use the territory to
launch its imperialist geopolitical strategy
against countries in the region.
