President Of
Legislature
Wants Quick
Approval Of
Tránsito Reforms
The president of
the Asamblea
Legislativa,
Luis Gerardo
Villanueva, has
asked
legislators for
quick approval
of the reforms
to the Ley de
Tránsito that
went into effect
on March 1,
2010, that was
left over by the
previous
legislative
group.
The text of the
reforms was
passed in first
reading,
however, the
Sala
Constitucional
found
constitutional
problems with
the text which
is now being
corrected by a
legislative
commission.
On Monday,
legislators
began discussing
the Ley de
Concesión y
Operación de
Marinas
Turísticas and
Villanueva fears
that it would
put the Tránsito
reforms on the
back burner.
Villanueva is
urging
legislators to
avoid this from
happening and
for quick
approval.
The reforms to
the Ley de
Tránsito would,
among other
things, bring
down the amount
of the traffic
fines and remove
the point
system.
