Quepos On
"Yellow" Alert
For Heavy Rain
And Winds
The residents of
Quepos have
begun the
cleaning up of
their town after
a Tuesday night
storm with heavy
rains and winds
caused damage to
homes and
businesses on
Costa Rica's
Central Pacific
coast.
 
Thousands were
affected when
the strong winds
and rains
brought down
trees and power
lines. Many
tourists at
nearby Manuel
Antonio park
found their
vacation to have
taken a twist, a
hotel without
power and
running water.
One tourist
interviewed on
local television
said he had to
call his car
rental company
for a new car as
his rented
vehicle was
under a tree,
fallen from the
storm.
Some residents
suffered damage
to their homes,
if not from
fallen trees,
but from
flooding as the
low lying areas
of Quepos and
Parrita were
under water.
The tropical
storm left the
behind one
person dead,
another still
missing and more
than a thousand
with partial
damages to their
homes and
belongings.
A total of five
homes were
totally
destroyed, many
more suffered
partial damages.
Wednesday
afternoon it
began raining
again and the
Comisión
Nacional de
Emergencias (CNE)
- National
Emergency
Commission -
issued a
"yellow" alert
for the area.
And although the
rains were light
and did not
cause any more
damage, the CNE
continues the
alert.
Roads littered
were with debris
of falled trees
in all parts of
the Quepos,
Manuel Antonio,
Parrita and as
far north as
Jacó, which was
spared the brunt
of the storm.
Many of the
communities in
the Central and
South Pacific
were hit hard,
but did not
suffer the
damage and
devastation of
Quepos.
