I read your
article in
Inside Costa
Rica, The Golden
Goose Story.
I dropped anchor
in Playa del
Coco in 1974. I
lived in peace
and
harmony for 30
years right
there in Coco.
In 2000 I sold
the
www.ranchoarmadillo.com
Estate in Coco
and moved to
Chepe until my
youngest
finished
Lincoln.
I still visit
every month
which is easy, I
now live in
Boquete Chiriqui
Panama, so the
flight time to
SJO from David
is the same as
to Panama City.
And now with the
new road to
Dominical I
might start
doing the
occasional drive
again.
Not to bore you
with my story I
just sent this
to let you know
you hit
the Golden Nail
square on the
head. I have
worked in
Tourism in CR
and Panama now
for over 25
years.
$.50 beers at
the beaches in
Panama is what
turns me on.
Beach bars
like Coco are
now getting
$2.00

Hola,
The following
was posted below
your article. I
wrote it and
mean it.
In the paper, I
am listed as
"unknown". It is
nice to hear
some one being
honest about
Costa Rica. The
Goose that layed
(sic) the golden
egg is dead. I
love this little
country I live
in, but his
country has
become a lawless
third world
country,( some
countries advise
there citizens,
not to come here
!!), where
everyone
from our past
presidents,
immigration,
customs, mayors
, police .....
all the way down
to the maids,
steal or take
bribes and think
it ok.
What kind of
example is this
for the children
that are growing
up here ?
Why can't we,
(the people who
care about this
country and live
here), work on
cleaning this
up. There is no
security,
(unless you
provide your
own), example;
home robberies,
car jacking,
tourist being
robbed and
ripped off,
rapes, murders,
police that are
under paid and
not train enough
or properly,
(police and
teacher should
be "well payed"
(sic) and have
the best
possible people
working in these
positions.
Our security and
education of our
youth should be
our number one
concern.
I agree, ask the
hard questions
about waste
water treatment,
sanitation. It
is only a dream
to go fishing in
most of the
rivers and
streams in Costa
Rica. Check the
next time you
"flush" the
water down the
kitchen sink,
washing machine
drain, or
anything in the
bathroom.
Where is that
waste product
going.... this
is not the Pura
Vida, "Pure
Life", that is
"sold" as Costa
Rica. We, as the
people of Costa
Rica should
stand up
together and
change the
"mistakes" of
the past. Let us
get back to
basic and do the
right things.
There are a lot
of good people
that live in
this country. We
should not have
to bar up our
homes and live
behind locked
gates. I for
one, am more
than willing to
roll-up my
sleeves and help
correct the past
errors.
