Ericsson gets
optical network
order from
CableTica in
Costa Rica
Swedish
telecoms
equipment maker
Ericsson AB (STO:
ERIC B) said
today it will
build and
operate an
optical
transport
network for
Costa Rican
cable television
operator
CableTica under
a five-year deal
with an
undisclosed
value.
The new network
will be based on
Ericsson's MHL
3000 and OMS
1400 optical
network
portfolios.
As a result,
CableTica will
be able to
transport any
kind of data --
including
television,
Internet and
mobile backhaul
-- and to launch
IPTV services in
the future. In
addition, the
operator will
expand its
coverage in
Costa Rica.
The network will
be the first in
Costa Rica
specifically
optimized for
next-generation
mobile networks,
which are
expected to be
introduced there
later this year,
Ericsson said.
CableTica plans
to launch the
new service
shortly.
This is
Ericsson's first
cable television
deal in Central
America and the
Caribbean.
