EU Team to Talk Multi-Party
Agreement in Ecuador
QUITO - A delegation of the European Union,
led by Director for Latin America of the
European Commission Gustavo Martin, will
visit Ecuador on June 14-16 to talk about
the resumption of the Multi-party Agreement.
Deputy Minister of Trade of Ecuador's
Foreign Ministry Galo Borja said on
Wednesday that the EU delegation is expected
to hold meetings with ministerial
authorities and "we will put forward our
intentions as a sovereign country."
EU agreements with Peru and Colombia have
been revised and we see many possibilities
to reach an agreement, said Borja, according
to reports released by the Foreign Ministry.
In Borja's opinion, the EU wants to
negotiate with Ecuador and the Ecuadorian
proposal has the advantage to develop the
technological and professional field.
Before the meeting with the EU on Thursday,
a preparatory, inter-ministerial meeting
will be held to define points of the agenda,
expected to include tariffs, agricultural
and not agricultural products, industrial
products and trade in general.
The meeting will be held on the sidelines to
the Regional Seminar for Latin America
organized by the EU every year to be host
this year by Quito. |
