Kirchner-Lugo Dialogue on
Regional Integration
ASUNCION - The Paraguayan President Fernando
Lugo, today welcomed the Secretary General
of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR),
Nestor Kirchner, visiting the capital, and
they dialogued about regional integration.
In the morning the former Argentine
President was received at the Government
Palace by his host and they discussed the
current state of the block, officially made
by the countries of the region, except for
Paraguay, which is waiting for the
pronouncement of Parliament .
After this visit, he said, he will go to
Brazil, Uruguay, Colombia and Peru "to
implement integration the best way
possible."
The president said that the Union of South
American Nations does not want to be copy of
the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR) or
other groupings.
Lugo said Kirchner intends to work in human
rights' defense, trade and investment in the
less developed countries, to overcome the
existing inequality, at least in the
countries of MERCOSUR."
During his day in Paraguay, Kirchner plans
to meet with the Senate President Miguel
Carrizosa, and with members of the Foreign
Relations committees of both chambers. |
