Colombia Launches Rescue
Mission For Hostages
BOGOTA - Colombian President Alvaro Uribe on
Friday announced a military operation to
rescue seven people kidnapped in the
country's southwestern province of Nariño.
The hostages, including a judge, were
kidnapped on Thursday by leftist guerillas
of the National Liberation Army (ELN).
"We are going to try to rescue them," Uribe
said, adding he remained committed to his
Democratic Security Program to fight illegal
armed groups.
"At the moment, we are seeking to rescue all
the hostages and we are going to work till
they are rescued," Uribe said.
Uribe stressed the kidnappings showed the
importance of the security policies he has
been promoting during his eight-year rule.
