Gasoline Dropping ¢5 Colones By Mid Month

Gasoline prices will be dropping in the coming weeks with the approval on Friday of a decrease of ¢5 colones a litre by the Autoridad Reguladora de los Servicios Públicos (Aresep).

Carolina Mora, spokesperson for the Aresep, explained that the fluctuations of crude oil on international markets influenced the price drop.

However, before the prices can drop at the pumps, the approval has to first go to the Imprenta Nacional (national printer) that publishes the official government newsletter, La Gaceta.

The approval is expected to be sent to the printer on Monday and be published not later than June 14, explained Mora.

Gasoline stations around the country are then required to change the prices the following day.

All gasoline products in Costa Rica are supplied to the local retailers by the state refinery, the Refinadora Costarricense de Petroleo (Recope) and the prices set by the Aresep.

The price of gasoline is the same at all gasoline stations across the country.
