Truck Takes Out Overpass In Santa Ana

The driver of a truck carrying a payload of heavy machinery who did not judge correct the height of his load and that of the bridge ahead, was the cause of the accident that knocked down half of a pedestrian bridge in Santa Ana, causing tremendous congestion on the Prospero Fernandez (San José - Caldera).

The accident occurred several hundred metres west of the Forum in Santa Ana, on the eastbound lanes to San José.

The collapse of the overhead bridge forced the closure of both eastbound lanes, as traffic had to be detoured on the westbound lanes.

Fortunately there were no injuries or fatalities reported.

The bridge is mainly used to move animals between the two sides of the a zoo without interrupting traffic on the section of the highway that has a speed limit of 100 Km/h.

The Policía de Tránsito was quickly on the scene to direct traffic assist crews of the Autopistas del Sol to begin the extraction of the truck and load and clean up of the debris.

The highway is expected to be cleared by today.
