Bolivia, Paraguay Celebrate
Peace Accord
LA PAZ - Bolivian and Paraguayan Minister of
Defense will meet at the Bolivian city of
Villa Montes on Saturday to celebrate the 75
anniversary of the Peace Agreement signed
after the Chaco War (1932-1935).
First it was expected Presidents Evo Morales
and Fernando Lugo to be met in Asuncion, but
their international commitments prevented
the meeting.
Ruben Saavedra and Luis Bareiro will take
the meeting to show fraternity and
solidarity between the both countries
despite the opposition attempt to divide
them.
The meeting is expected to be held on
Saturday morning Villa Montes, located in
the southern department of Tarija, about 105
miles from La Paz and near Paraguayan
border.
Paraguay and Bolivia signed a protocol for
peace in Buenos Aires Argentina, which two
days later put an end to the bloody Chaco
War, in which more than 50,000 Bolivians and
many Paraguayans died.
