Panama Extols Cuban Support in Literacy Campaign

PANAMA - Panamanian authorities recognized Cuban support in the program against illiteracy, included today among the priorities of the Ministry of Social Development (MIDES).

During a graduation of literates in the Veraguas province, minister Guillermo Ferrufino highlighted the participation of Cuban advisors in that task.

Thanks to Cuba, said the official, "we now have the people that makes this project possible", as they arrive to hard to access zones together with Panamanian volunteers, carrying the equipment and pushing vehicles whenever necessary.

A total of 633 inhabitants of this territory received certificates after accomplishing the expected learning chronogram, based on the Cuban program "Yes, I can".

Cuban ambassador to Panama, Reinaldo Calviac, considered special that step to those who did not have the opportunity to attend school.

By being no longer illiterate, they have reached a new level that opens for them new horizons in their lives, added the diplomat alter exhorting them to keep on pursuing more ambitious goals.

In that way, said Calviac, they will respond to the interests of their familias and the Panamanian nation.

Also, the ambassador ratified Cuban disposition to continue collaboration to support this nation in accomplishing the Millennium goals for the elimination of illiteracy.
