Rescued Hostages Reunite With
Their Families In Colombia
BOGOTA - Having been held hostage for 12
years by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of
Colombia (FARC), four Colombian officers
finally reunited with their families on
Monday.

soldiers who were kidnapped by FARC rebels
for over 10 years were rescued Sunday by the
authorities and another captive who was lost
in a jungle during rescue operation was also
found later.
"That rescue operation was excellent...Some
16 months ago we did not have radio, so we
didn't know what was going on with Colombia
and the world," said the rescued police
General Luis Mendieta.
Army Sergeant Arbey Delgado said the FARC
members are "savages" who have inflicted
huge sufferings on the relatives of his
fellow hostages.
"I want to thank the military forces and the
chief commander, President Alvaro Uribe,
commander of the Military Forces General
Freddy Padilla… and the men who went to the
jungle to make a clean operation. The
guerrillas ran, leaving behind their weapons
and equipment," Delgado said.
Police Colonel William Donato demanded the
release of all civilians and soldiers who
are still in the hands of the FARC.
"Today is a big day for our Army, sometimes
I thought that I could be among the best
army of the world and today I have to say it
is the best of the world," Donato said.
Having rescued three hostages on Sunday, the
army on Monday morning picked up Donato who
had escaped and hidden in the jungle.
