Salud Strengthens Measures Against AH1N1 Outbreak In Costa Rica's Northern Zone

The breakout of the AH1N1 flu virus in the northern zone has Salud (Health) authorities beefing up measures in the area to control the spread of the virus.

The vice-ministra de Salud, Ana Morice, confirmed 35 cases of infection of the virus and waiting on the results of another 300 suspected cases.

Morice said a directive has been issued that all persons entering a medical centre with symptoms and risk factors should receive antiviral treatment immediately.

The vice-ministra ruled out that the common influenza H3N2* now in Nicaragua is related to the cases in Costa Rica. The northern zone borders with Nicaragua, separated by the river San Juan.
