Caldera
How long will
closure and the
the work on the
San José -
Caldera last?
Much longer if
the rains keep
pounding the
area, according
to the
Ministerio de
Obras Públicas y
Transportes (MOPT).
The MOPT closed
last Saturday
morning the 11
kilometres of
the new highway
between Atenas
and orotina
while the road
concessionaire,
Autopistas del
Sol, makes the
necessary
changes to
eliminate rock
falls and mud
slides.
However, with
the heavy rain
fall, work is
falling behind
schedule, as
Autopistas is
forced to reduce
work hours to
minimize risk
for the workers.
Tomorrow
(Thursday)
Autopistas is
expected to
table a report
on the progress,
as well as the
work to the
completed, wich
is expected to
take up to two
months.
The Policía de
Tránsito says
that the closure
has not caused
congestion
problems on the
alternate
routes, the
montes de
aguacatge and
Cambronero, to
get to and from
the Pacific
coast.
