Member of Zelaya Govt Killed
in Honduras
SAN PREDO SULA - Roland Valenzuela, a member
of the Honduran Liberal Party and a
government official during the Manuel Zelaya
presidency, was killed early today in San
Pedro Sula.
Details of the crime have not been provided,
but according to preliminary reports, the
politician was shot several times after an
argument in a restaurant in that city.
Valenzuela was former director of the
National Sustainable Development Program,
and was later appointed by Zelaya as
minister without portfolio (housing sector).
After the June 28 coup against the
constitutional government of Honduras,
Valenzuela joined the People's National
Resistance Front (FNRP), which opposed the
coup.
Several FNRP leaders and former Zelaya
administration officials have been attacked
in the last months.
From January to date, the Committee of
Relatives of Detained-Missing People has
reported over 700 politically-motivated
attacks. |
