Brazilian Congress Approves
Statute of Racial Equality
BRASILIA - The Brazilian Senate approved the
Statute of Racial Equality Wednesday in an
effort to make policies for combating
discrimination against black people.
The statute, which was worked out by the
Congress after seven years of debates, is
yet to be endorsed by President Luiz Inacio
Lula da Silva.
The statute promotes equal opportunities for
black people, guaranteeing their equal
access to health, education and employment,
but sets no quotas for their admission into
universities or political parties. |
