Costa Rica's
Consumer
Confidence On
The Rise
The sounds of
the cash
registers
spurred by
consumer
confidence meant
an increase of
almost four
thousand new
jobs for the
first four
months of 2010
in the retail
sector.
The positive
news was
indicated in a
survey the "Índice
de Confianza del
Sector Comercial"
that was taken
between May 21
and June 4.
Arnoldo André,
president of the
Cámara de
Comercio,
explained that
consumer
confidence had
led retailers
out of the
financial slump
and that turns
into increased
sales.
André said that
3.479 new jobs
were created in
the retail
sector this
year.
According to the
Cámara head, the
economic crisis
caused the loss
of 45.000 jobs
in Costa Rica's
private sector
and that
although the
employments
levels of before
the crisis have
yet to recover,
it will do so,
but slowly.
"2010 shows
continuing
stability and
global and
national trends
and full
recovery will
occur in 2011",
according to
André.
André explains
that the Índice
de Confianza del
Comercio (Trade
Confidence
Index) showed
optimistic
results for the
third
consecutive
quarter, with
116 points. If
the points are
less than 100,
consumer
confidence is
pessimistic.
"When it exceeds
the 100 mark,
there is trust
and optimism in
the market",
said André.
