Tolls From Road

The Autopistas
del Sol, the
concessionare of
the San José -
Caldera isn't
talking but it
is estimated
that it is
losing some ¢9.1
million colones
daily only from
the tolls on
passenger
vehicles. When
you add the
tolls paid by
buses, trucks
and vans, that
number could
easily be double
or more.
The closure of
the 11
kilometres
between Orotina
and Atenas on
ruta 27 is
eliminating from
the the
company's
coffers ¢610
colones for each
passenger
vehicle (the
Atenas toll) and
is you use
simple
arithmetic by
taking into
account the
15.000 passenger
vehicle average,
the loss is
calculated at
¢9.1 million
daily.
The road will
tomorrow enter
its 8th day.
Although no one
is saying when
it will re-open,
the ministerio
de Obras
Públicas y
Transportes (MOPT)
said earlier
this week that
it could be a
few more weeks
instead of the
two months
previously
estimated.
Autopistas is
keeping its
mouth closed on
estimated losses
and the time
frame to
re-open, only
delivering
progress report
to the MOPT and
keeping the
media away from
the work sites.
Before the road
will be
re-opened, it
expected that
the MOPT will
make a thorough
inspection of
the work and
using experts to
point out any
potential
problems.
