Transportes (MOPT)
closed Ruta 32 San José
- Guápiles for
the better part
of the day on
Friday, not due
to a serious
traffic
accident, heavy
rain or
mudslides, but
rather to
evaluate the
road to avoid
all those
happening.
The inspection
of the highway
was carried
out by the Dirección de
Atención de
Desastres y
Emergencias y
del Consejo
Nacional de
Vialidad (Conavi)
and experts from
Spain, working
with MOPT
officials,
who carried out
technical
studies of the
areas prone to
landslides.
The highway was
closed around
10am on Friday
and re-opened by
the end of the
day.
Ruta 32 is the
main road
connecting San
José to Guápiles
and the port
province of
Limón, as well
as the tourist
areas of
Sarapiquí.
