Early Morning
Earthquake Wakes
Up San Carlos
An earthquake,
followed by a
series of
aftershocks,
rocked Costa
Rican's northern
zone of San
Carlos in the
early hours of
Saturday
morning. Experts
say rule out
that a volcano
caused the
tremors. The
quake was felt
at 6:44am.
For the majority
of Sancarleños
Saturday morning
was different
than the others.
Although the
tremors were
weak, they were
felt by most of
the residents of
Cuidad Quesada
(San Carlos), as
well as the
nearby
communities of
San José de la
Montaña and San
Martín en Ciudad
Quesada.
The Observatorio
Vulcanológico y
Sismológico de
Costa Rica (OVSICORI)
registered the
tremor at 2.6 on
the Richter
scale, with its
epicentre
located 7
kilometres south
of Cuidad
Quesada (10.266
latitude and
-84.16
longitude)
The quake was
not even
registered on
the USGS "latest
earthquakes in
the world"
website.
