Violence Kills 77 Women in
Honduras in 2010
TEGUCIGALPA - At least 77 women have died in
Honduras because of the violence against
this sector, which takes hundreds of lives
every year in the Central American nation.
According to a local press report, the
deaths were reported in the first half of
the year, and all of them were executed with
firearms.
However, from the total of cases in the
hands of the authorities, only two cases
have been sent to the Attorneyâ�Ös Office,
while the figures threaten to exceed the
previous year, when there were 377 femicides.
The regional coordinator of the Public
Ministry, Rafael Fletes, attributes them to
the lack of a proper investigative process
by the units operating in the clarification
of the womenâ�Ös deaths, which lack the
logistical resources to investigate.
Statistics place San Pedro Sula in the first
place nationally in femalesâ�Ö murders,
followed by Tegucigalpa, Fletes reported.
