Legislators Do
Not Comply With
Eviction Order,
Call For A
Censure Of
Health Minister
The Legislative
Assembly is
again under the
gun to present a
remedial plan
that would
prevent their
eviction of
three buildings
identified by
the ministerio
de Salud (Health
ministry) as a
health risk.
The ministra de
salud, María
Luisa Ávila,
confirmed on
Monday that if
she does not
receive a plan
by today, as
promised last
week to avoid
eviction, she
will shut down
the legislative
buildings.
Ávila is
currently under
the gun by
legislators of
her handling or
mishandling with
the provisions
of supplying
milk to children
of poor
families.
A group of
legislators led
by legislators
of the Partido
Acción Ciudadana
(PAC) is calling
for a censure or
reprimand of the
Health minister
for striking out
at the
Legislture and
for a "sacada de
clavo" (pushing
them against the
wall) with
threat to evict.
Jeannette Ruiz,
leading the PAC,
said that the
censure vote has
the support of
all the party
heads who are
upset with the
ministra.
For his part,
the president of
the Legislature,
Luis Gerardo
Villanueva,
asked that
legislators not
call for a
censure vote and
prefers to keep
open the
dialogue to find
a solution to
the problem.
"We have spoken
to the Banco
Centroamericano
de Integración
Económica (BCIE)
and are
evaluating the
option of
purchasing an
existing
building near
the Legislative
Assembly", said
Villaneuva.
The new building
would house the
legislators,
their assistants
and support
staff - a total
of 450 - that
are now using
the condemned
buildings, the
Edificio Sión,
Casa Rosada and
the Castillo
Azul. |
