Brazil Aims To Eradicate
Child Labour By 2013
BRASILIA - The Brazilian government plans to
completely eradicate child labour over the
next three years, an official said on
Tuesday.
"The target is that by 2013 we do not have
children working," said Maria Luiza Rizzoti,
a senior official at the Ministry of Social
Development and Fight against Hunger.
Statistics show that there are 2.1 million
child workers in Brazil as of 2008. Half of
them are involved in the agricultural
sector, and some others work at garages and
sell goods under traffic lights.
"This is a permanent task and it is
important that the society realizes this and
participates in this fight: if you find a
kid selling sweets at traffic lights,
working in the field or in prostitution,
denounce," said Rizzoti. |
